there are apparently a lot of versions of this fable. i like this one the best.
once there was a middle eastern potentate who wanted his two sons to become the most intelligent people in the world. in order to do this he called a meeting of all the wise men in the kingdom and ordered them to gather all the world's knowledge together in one place so his sons could read it. the wise men returned in a year with twenty five volumes of knowledge. the potentate told them that it was far too long and asked them to condense it. the wise men left and returned a year later, but this time with only a single volume. the potentate told them that it was still too long for his sons and ordered them to condense it further. the wise men left for another year and returned and gave the potentate a piece of paper with a single sentence on it.
the sentence read: "this too shall pass."
beautiful. simply beautiful.

a few weeks back my mom asked me what i would do if i won the lottery. it's a pretty common question really, but at the time i couldn't think of anything i wanted. i'm a simple man with simple pleasures. movies, books, occasional drinks. all things i can already afford. but i think i got it figured out now.
if i won the lottery, i would pay morgan freeman to follow me around and narrate my life.

i was watching north by northwest the other day and i started thinking about mount rushmore, where the movie's climax takes place. the thing i don't get about mount rushmore: teddy roosevelt. sure, i buy washington, jefferson, and lincoln. but teddy roosevelt? i would have gone with his fifth cousin myself. but hey, that's just me.

nice teeth, though. gotta give him that.

music: brand new - last chance to lose your keys
my first instinct is never wrong.
let me explain.
so i thought i lost my keys tonight. well half of them at least. you see, i've got one of those indie-rock carbiner things that i latch to my beltloop. one of these things:
'cept mine's blue. but i digress.
i realized after i parked my car that half, the big half, of my keys were missing. my car key and my mcbc access fob are on one ring, and all my other keys on a separate one. this makes sense for when i have to take my car in for service or lend it to someone. however, sometimes when i grab for my keys i accidentally grab the latch on my carabiner and the big ring of keys falls off. normally, and as was the case tonight, i notice immediately. my first instinct was that the ring had fallen somewhere on the floor of my car. it's happened before. i looked for about five minutes, and if you've seen the inside of my car as of late, that is no small endeavor. no dice.
i went through the list of where i had been in last few hours. i would have noticed the missing keys after parking at class. i'm almost supernaturally observant. so i narrowed it down to a few locations on the pew campus. the walk from my parking spot to building c. building c to nesterenko's class. nesterenko's class to the library. the library back to my parking spot. i retraced my steps with increasing urgency as i inventoried the contents of the missing ring: my weezer bottle opener, my house key, my parent's house key, my speedpass, the key to jimmy johns. no dice.
the entire search i second-guessed myself. when had i lost them? had i done it at mcbc and just not noticed? no, i would have noticed, right? during class maybe? i hadn't touched them since i parked. in the library maybe? i was busy thinking about bsg: razor and maybe in the excitement to get home and watch it (it was sweet) i was distracted and hadn't noticed? no, i would have noticed. i asked the librarian. i asked security. no dice.
i searched my car again. dice. right where i thought they would be. logically, that made the most sense. so amount of circumstance or theorizing (rationalization?) could explain away occam's razor: all things being equal, the simplest solution tends to be the right one.

i'll hold off til they update, but man leopard looks pretty.
new effects demo probably later this week sometime. this one's gonna take me a bit longer.
